Overview

The Accounting Student Association (ASA) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting accounting students through networking events, professional development opportunities, and academic resources. As the Marketing Coordinator, I managed marketing campaigns, designed graphic materials, coordinated social media, and contributed to event promotions. I also led a videography project and website redesign, enhancing ASA's visibility and engagement.


Social Media

As a Marketing & Design Associate for the Accounting Student Association (ASA), I created social media graphics to showcase events that connected students with accounting professionals. My designs highlighted key event details with engaging visuals and clear messaging, helping to boost participation and strengthen ASA’s presence within the student community.

Website Design

I played a key role in redesigning the ASA website to improve user experience, visual appeal, and accessibility for students and professionals. The new design emphasized clear navigation, modern aesthetics, and structured content, making it easier for users to explore events, sponsorship opportunities, and organizational information. Photography

Alongside design, I also captured professional headshots and group photos for the ASA team, ensuring high-quality visuals that reflect the organization’s professionalism and unity. These images were used for promotional materials, social media, and the website, reinforcing ASA’s brand and enhancing its outreach efforts.

Videography/Production

I created a promotional video for ASA’s Achieve Case Competition, capturing the competitors’ journey through storming, norming, and performing stages. Using a Director’s Treatment, I storyboarded and planned the shoot efficiently, reducing filming time to under two hours. The final video was shared on social media and broadcasted on SFU’s building TV monitors, effectively promoting the event to students.

Reflection

Working on ASA’s marketing, design, and media projects required precision, creativity, and adaptability. Balancing multiple deliverables with tight deadlines helped me sharpen my project management and problem-solving skills while maintaining high-quality outputs.

I was also able to learn:

  • Strategic branding to ensure consistency across social media, website, and promotional materials.

  • Cross-functional collaboration, aligning design efforts with ASA’s goals to create impactful marketing campaigns.

  • Effective storytelling through visual design, photography, and videography to engage audiences.

Oversaw tech procurement, livestreaming via YouTube Live, and contingency planning to ensure a seamless virtual competition for global MIS teams.
